More About SAXMAN

Hey...Im Richard Craven...saxophonist. Love to play any style of music and enjoy playing from the heart ...mostly improv..some Jazz standards, Blues, Rock....open to anything i can feel through my bones. My resume consisits of many years of live performance...various styles...studio recording and a touch of teaching..Ive been playing to tasty backing tracks for the last couple of years ..back in the closet perfecting playing along to a computer rather than i a live band ! sign of the times...always looking for live players to jam with also.. i have a small group of musicians...an eclectic bunch with great skills..we just go for it and improvise..always something new and free which is great for the soul. Influences are vast and too many too list..to mention a few...Grover Washington Jr, Count Basie, Charlie Parker, Thelonius Monk, Earth Wind and Fire, Bob Marley, Sade < Steeley Dan, Chicago, ..and so on ! My goodFriend Teree Turtle recommend i show my skills and see what happens !

Life on the Street

I dont play on floats in parades....the last time i nearly knocked my teeth out...keeping balance ..reading a chart and having a metal mouthpiece in your mouth is not a good combination !

Embarrassing Moment

I was really nervous opening for the English Beat.. an awesome Ska band.. i grew up with them during the 80's..i was incredibly nervous and was playing with a Ska Band in a horn section..the band was called Rude City Riot.... i did mess up some intriquite horn lines..nothin serious...a couple of bad notes..and it always goes through your mind if they heard it...in most cases they don't... anyway..most stressed on stage for me..many butterflies for sure !

My Instrument

Had my 58 Selmer 6 since 1983....a beautiful vintage horn ....with a sound like velvet...its been with me since i started playing the sax...very dear to my heart.
