More About Pete_Glaze

Pete Glaze is a long time singer/songwriter with influences as diverse as Pete Townshend, Elton John, John Prine, Tom Lehrer, Gordon Lightfoot, Old Man Leudecke and the Doctor Demento Show.

Pete Glaze writes and sings quirky songs with clever wordplay; songs to make you laugh, and songs to make you cry — sometimes both at once. A multi-instrumentalist, Pete may play guitar, banjo, mandolin or ukulele. Whichever is best suited for the song at hand.

Pete Glaze was born and raised in New York City, where he started singing early and then taught himself guitar in his teens. Banjo and other instruments came later. He now lives in Atlantic City, New Jersey with his wife, and youngest son. He has has two older boys, one of whom is Sean Glaze, who works as a writer, storyboard artist and animator in Los Angeles.
Fun Stuff about the Artist

Life on the Street

A few years ago in Atlantic City, New Jersey. I went out to busk on the Boardwalk. I found a great spot and set up my stuff. About 2/3 of the way through my first song two cops showed up. They stopped me and said I couldn't play there. I started packing up my stuff to move.

While I was packing I heard another voice say, "Why are you stopping him from performing?" I was aware of the cops talking to this other person for a while. I got to a point when I could look up, and I realized that the guy the cops were talking to was Bruce Hornsby. Before I even got a chance to say anything he was jogging off down the boardwalk.

I still amuse myself with the notion that the AC cops spoiled my breakthrough moment just as I was about to be discovered by Bruce Hornsby!

Embarrassing Moment

I wouldn't say this was embarrassing, exactly, but a whole bunch of years ago I was the front man/lead singer for a classic rock cover band outside of Philadelphia. We were performing in a bar, and had finished playing a song, and I was doing my talking to the crowd bit.

It was a pretty noisy place, but I noticed that people in the crowd were laughing and pointing, and I couldn't figure out why. It was only later I found out that the bass player and lead guitar player were behind me literally trying to strangle each other while I was doing my patter.

My Instrument

My first instruments (aside from the obligatory recorder) were: A flute, which was stolen out of a shopping bag my parents had me carry to school; and a violin that I accidentally fell on and broke in half.

Things could only get better from there. 😂

I always loved to sing, and at about the age of 11 I put together a ukulele from broken parts and learned a few chords to accompany myself. Later, at 17 or 18, I started teaching myself guitar. Piano, banjo, mandolin and other instruments came a bit later.

I don't name my instruments, but the guitar I play the most is a 1988 Guild acoustic that I call "the engagement guitar," because I gave my wife a ring, and she gave me that guitar. I have several others, but it's the one I play the most at home and in coffee houses. I don't bring that one when I perform in bars.
