More About shimmering

I grew up in Bulgaria, listening to classical music and Bulgarian pop music. I loved singing since I was a child, and sang in a high class choir between ages 10 and 13, but that all came to an end when my family migrated to Australia. As a teenager, I sang in church, and later learnt Bulgarian folk singing, and sang in a band in Melbourne. When I was 40 I remembered that at age 11 I had wanted to be an opera singer. I started taking lessons, learnt a few opera arias, and sang in an opera production chorus. When the shows finished I went out to busk. People responded positively to my signing and I then got a busking permit to sing in the heart of Melbourne where I was known as the opera lady. I then left everything to go and study in Bulgaria, where I completed a Master's in Classical singing. My dream is to sing a solo role in an opera, or a solo in an oratorio performance. I have performed my own "cabaret" type show, and was chosen as one of Melbourne's 10 best buskers.
Fun Stuff about the Artist

Life on the Street

I have performed in the streets of 20 different cities, in 5 different countries. When I started out in Melbourne, my first time was singing in front of an Italian restaurant which had tables out on the pavement. A man got up from his chair, came to me, opened up his wallet and took out a $50 note, saying, I will give you $50 if you go to sing somewhere else because my girlfriend doesn't like opera. I was silly enough not to take it, but changed what I was singing! Months later, in the same lively street, on a cold winter's Tuesday evening, when I wasn't getting much of a response or tips, I persevered, and then saw a woman sitting on a bench seat near me, clapping at the end of each performance. I was getting tired, and wondering if she was going to give me anything. Next thing I knew, she got up, walked over to me, and handed me a $100 note. I was so touched, and so tired, I said nearly out of breath "Thank you", and "This is tiring", and she said nicely,"you can go home now".

Embarrassing Moment

Probably the most unpleasant moment was when I sang for "Australia's got talent" and Kyle Sunderland made fun of my curly hair.

My Instrument

My favourite instrument is my voice, because it is always with me. I think of it as my best friend.
