More About punkmonkproductions

I'm Elai (pronounced like Eli) Rose. I'm a queer, Buddhist, tea-loving song writer with an adorable cat child.

I started this account as a way to earn some extra cash while on self-quarantine during the 2020 COVID-19 epidemic in the U.S. But when the world isn't panic shopping, my day job is working as a licensed therapist at a men's residential treatment facility.

Growing up, I listened to a lot of Elvis, Beatles, and 90s country. Today, you'll find me perusing the Spotify pages of artists like Halestorm, Twenty One Pilots, and Frank Turner.

I've been playing music practically since I was old enough to hold an instrument, and I started song writing and playing gigs roughly 3 years ago. I did a lot of face-to-face busking during grad school to make ends meet. I play a lot of folk-punk, and I'm also a classically-trained sax player.

I've been told that my music sounds like Jason Marz, Tyler Joseph, Amanda Palmer, and Sublime got together and wrote an acoustic album. Enjoy!

Fun Stuff about the Artist

Life on the Street

One of my favorite busking moments was when I was out performing in my hometown on Halloween. A girl dressed as an angel came up and listened to me. She didn't have any money for a tip, so instead she plucked a feather out of her wings and sat it in my guitar case. I still have it.

Another one of my favorite busking moments was when a group of foreign exchange students came up to listen, and one of them asked to borrow my guitar. He started playing the most gorgeous flamenco music, and his friends started salsa dancing on the sidewalk. It was magical.

Embarrassing Moment

Some scumbag ran up and stole roughly $70 out of my case and ran. At the time I was pretty shaken up frustrated. I kept playing anyway though. Ironically, I had been playing "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked" by Cage The Elephant when it happened, which looking back is pretty funny.

My Instrument

My first instrument was an old standing piano. I believe my dad sold it when I started favoring the saxophone.

As for favorites, I don't really have one. But I definitely use my acoustic/electric guitar the most. She's a 2010 Esteban named Hera (after the computer system on the podcast Wolf 359). I also have a Caramel concert uke named Herbie, a Fender mandolin named Iber, an Bundy alto sax named Sable, and a Yamaha Ypg-235 portable grand keyboard named Aphrodite. Also my snark tuner is named Petrie and my metronome is Beauford. I enjoy naming things lol
