More About phil_g

I am a retired computer programmer. I started writing songs in 1998. Been writing mostly as a hobby since. I belong to Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI). I'm also a regular on SongRamp.com, a songwriter forum/community. I have tunes on SoundCloud and ReverbNation. My writing style is country and blues. Mostly country, some blues.

As a kid, I played guitar for about 3 years, was in a small band for 3 months. I stopped playing guitar for over 20 years. I started playing again off and on in 1998. Now I try to practice a little every day. I know very few cover tunes so I play almost all originals. I can almost play a decent guitar, have marginal vocals, and am almost intertaining. Please come and join me on the nights I'm on. I appreciate any viewers.

NO TIPS PLEASE!

Fun Stuff about the Artist

Life on the Street

Walking down Broadway in Nashville, a couple of street mucisians asked my buddy and me to sit in, so we did. We jamed out some blues tune the guy knew. After the tune, the guy starts really working the crowd saying, "Do you guys know who this is?!", pointing to me. "You guys don't know!" Then shaking my hand says, "Oh man! Thanks so much for sitting in. What an honor!". Then turned back to the crowd with, "You guys know who this is?!" He did get at least one good tip, and another person took out his camera and got a picture of all of us. Then my buddy and I went to an open mic down the street.

Embarrassing Moment

How bout to date, every time I'm on stage. I'm always forgetting lyrics and or chords. Then, if I try to get cute with some kind of riff, BOY! But, I keep beating my hand against my guitar anyway!

My Instrument

My very first instrument was a violin in 1st grade. My mom wanted so bad for me to lerarn it. BUT, as a kid I wanted to learn guitar. I'm 68, and I still have that violin. My only memory from that part of my childhood. Over the years I've had several guitars. Today, my main guitar is a Gretch Acoustic/electric. I call her Gretchen. I also have a Takamine' acoustinc/electric.
