LIVE MUSIC has been my only source of income for the last 25 years.
I grew up musically in Calcutta in the 60s and the 70s, with a healthy dose of choirs, picnics and birthday party sing-a-longs.
Also worth mentioning here is my Dad’s collection of Big Band vinyls.
I picked up piano and then guitar from my peers and family members, (mainly brother, Leslie).
The band that has influenced me most is GRAND FUNK RAILROAD.
Others have been WEATHER REPORT, TRAFFIC, LITTLE FEAT,STRING CHEESE, FOURPLAY, LINKIN PARK, RATM, RHCP, SKYNYRD, ALLMANS, DOOBIES, 3 DOG NITE, BEATLES, WILBURYS, CALE, DYLAN, DEAD, FLOYD, LED ZEP, STONES,QUINCY JONES ...(in no particular order)
On stage, I have sung, played drums, keys, brass, rhythm, lead and bass guitars. Now, I am enjoying acoustic guitar and original music. I wrote my first song in Jan 77
Regarding my original music, I have been complimented as being Genre-less.
one time, I was on stage in Goa Night Market, and Cops and sniffer dogs came up onto stage.. ALL THE BAND MEMBERS TURNED AND LOOKED AT ME !!!!..
well my stash was in my bass case which was off stage in the green room.(i never carry stash on me).. and the dogs pushed off.. The cops were interested, but I ignored them and started a song. in the meantime, the dogs sniffed out some other guy who's stash got confiscated..
never felt that way.. screwed up sometimes, but .. shit happens.
One of my favourite acoustic guitars, got autographed by famous painter M.F.HUSSAIN (another story) and when he died, someone broke into my son's house and stole it.. didn't take money, laptop, tv, etc , etc.,... just the guitar... and it was the second best guitar I've ever had..
The best acoustic (I wrote all my songs using it) disappeared from the house of a "friend" who looked me straight in the eye and said "I don't know where it is"..
