More About natemaingard
Modern Troubadour and singer-songwriter Nate Maingard was born in a cottage on the outskirts of Cape Town, South Africa, surrounded by wild ocean and rugged mountains.
Growing up in his father’s guitar-making workshop, Nate eventually crafted his own instrument and award-winning musical style. His guitar Melody accompanies him in heartfelt songs, which gently illuminate and fiercely celebrate the archetypal journeys we all share as humans.
Nate is a breathe of fresh air and an exciting artist to experience, whether at his live shows or talks, through listening to one of his albums or by connecting with him online.
Nate draws his inspiration from the indie-folk movement championed by the likes of Bon Iver, Elliot Smith, Death Cab For Cutie and Tallest Man On Earth…while remaining true to his first loves of the lyrical singer-songwriters of the 60’s, such as John Lennon, Nick Drake, Cat Stevens and Leonard Cohen.

Fun Stuff about the Artist
Life on the Street
The train had to stop in the middle of nowhere due to a fire on the tracks. I was 21 and it was my first time travelling, with my best friend Brendon. The sound of crickets and the mumble of the French passengers surrounded us as we stepped onto the platform to await our fate. I pulled out my guitar and began to play. The crowd gathered and cheered and threw money and laughed and we all had a great time until the fire was cleared and we all stepped back aboard and continued on our way. Such is life.
My Instrument
My guitar is named Melody and I built her myself in my dad's workshop, with his and his apprentice's assistance. My dad is Marc Maingard, one of the world's best hand-made guitar makers...so Melody sings rather sweetly it's true.
