More About matthewmoran

I'm Matthew Moran. An LA based songwriter, author, and consultant.

My father played banjo. I remember him recording Dylan's "Blowing in the Wind" on a little cassette player. I took that tape and played it til it wore out.

I picked up a beautiful classical Guild we had at the house, took a Pete Seeger banjo book ("The Red BooK") and learned the chords for some of the folk music my dad was playing... starting with, "The Crawdad Song"

I started writing songs at 12 years old and haven't stopped.

My influences range from Led Zeppelin, Gordon Lightfoot, Tom Petty, Kris Kristofferson, John Mellencamp, Fleetwood Mac - to more contemporary, Shawn Mullins, Fallout Boy, Ray LaMontagne, and much of the pop-punk my youngest daughter listens to.

I love the stage, love telling stories, and find life and people amazing!
Fun Stuff about the Artist

Life on the Street

I was performing with another guitar player at an outdoor venue in the Arizona desert. It was just after a monsoon rain and a swarm of black beetles descended upon the stage.

I was using the mic to wipe beetles away from my mouth. The audience was back under a canopy and really couldn't tell how bad it was in the dim light.

I looked at the guitar player accompanying me and said, "We have two more songs to finish our set and they can't tell what's going on.. so let's finish strong."

We completed the set and when I got off stage I wiped beetles off my shirt and head. I asked a lady friend to look at my back and see if there were beetles on it. She screamed and said it looked like my shirt was crawling..

Pretty gross.. but we persevered.

My Instrument

Hanging in my office is a Guild 12 string - cracked, faded, and warped.

In 2007, a monsoon storm flooded my home, destroying nearly everything I owned. When we got to the house, several guitars, including this 12 string, were under mud and water. I cleaned the guitar and keep it as a decoration and reminder.
