More About guitardavid

I remember The Beatles on the 1964 Ed Sullivan show as a 6 year old. The world has never been the same! I had a ticket to see them in London at 9. Mom thought the screaming girls would kill me so she said no. Thanks Mom :) As a 3 year old Mom lost me and found me picking out recognizable melodies on an old piano, but I never really got lessons. Grew up singing in any choir I could find- on base the chapel used to have services for all the different religions in the same building, and I remember singing for all of them! Started playing guitar at 12, and the first song I had to learn was Something, by George Harrison - not an easy first song, but I HAD to learn it, bleeding fingers and all. I've been the bandleader/backup singer/guitarist/keyboardist/bassist/co writer for Shelley Laine, helping her achieve 6 top 40 songs. I have 2 instrumental guitar CD's so far: David Waldon Picks on The Beatles, and A Simple Christmas, now in its 4th printing. I hope you enjoy!

Fun Stuff about the Artist

Life on the Street

I played carols from my CD A Simple Christmas for 2 days/8 hours a day at a Christmas store in Fredericksburg, TX once and I remember parents lining up babies in front of me and leaving them while they shopped nearby. It was fun, the babies were mesmerized. I wish I had a picture! I was exhausted, but made over a thousand dollars that weekend-it was wild!

Also got to record in Nashville and Austin. Good times! I was told not to open Willie Nelson's desk drawer when I was in his office as pot would fall out! They weren't kidding.

Embarrassing Moment

High School talent show, didn't have my guitar strap so had to put my foot on a chair to stand up and play. Unbeknownst to me, I had a rip in the crotch of my jeans which the footlights hi lighted to great effect. I'm told it looked like a white flag from a distance...

More recently with Shelley Laine, playing her debut single opening for Blake Shelton in an outdoor gig with the sun blaring in my face so hard I could not see the display on the consumer grade keyboard I was playing. I wanted to lower it an octave to hit the bass note I needed, but only moved it 11 steps. The song had a dramatic piano intro, and fortunately I noticed and knew when the band kicked in it would sound awful, so I had to stop and start over. Humiliating! Funnily enough, Shelley does not remember this, but I can't forget that awful feeling... :)

My Instrument

Alvarez Yairi DY45, tobacco brown satin finish, bought new in1984. I called him Brownie. Had to sell it a while ago. I recently bought a new one I call B2. We are still bonding.... :)
