I have had the privilege of playing for Grammy-winning artists, in churches, on the streets of Charlotte, NC, and in most of the ensembles at Furman University.
I enjoy playing songs by ear and mostly play Christian and Jazz music. I have been blessed with this gift and just enjoy being able to play for others.
I went to downtown Charlotte during CBCC (college basketball tournament) and the place was packed. I had a few people get in my face and say a few rude things to me and I was legitimately concerned about my safety that night.
I got a chance to play in front of Delfeayo Marsalis and everyone in the room was taking turns improving a few bars. When my turn came, I was still seated so the guy behind me kept demanding that I stand up and so when I did, I messed up my solo.
I unintentionally gave it to a former co-worker's child to keep. I was trying to do them a favor and get the child's trombone repaired, and I lent them mine in the meantime. However, due to miscommunication, my former co-worker never picked up the repair, so it got sent back to the warehouse in Charlotte and the child still has my trombone.
