More About Uranus Calling

My life as an artist began in my first grade underground dungeon at Sunny Hill Elementary school in Carpentersville, IL. This wasn't your typical dark and dreary dungeon; no, this was a MAGICAL dungeon whose lair was occupied by a secretly eccentric woman dressed in a sky blue apron and dawning a marvelous set of large spectacles from which she oversaw my artistic manifestations of blocks of clay into totem poles and penguins. From the moment I felt her energy I knew I wanted to grow up and 'be an artist.' Eventually my chosen tools came to be those of instruments as I declared to myself from a young age I wanted to be 'so good at music I can pick up any instrument and play it.' The first instrument I learned was guitar through playing NIRVANA covers. My efforts to form an original band that also played NIRVANA covers never panned out so I took it upon myself to learn drums and bass and have a one person rock project in which I compose, play and record everything myself.
Fun Stuff about the Artist

Life on the Street

A few weeks before a gig as a drummer for a live show my left wrist got bit twice while carelessly throwing myself between two of my dogs who had started fighting. Long story short I didn't properly care for the wound, it got infected really badly and I was unable to use my left hand for almost an entire year. I did however manage to join a small QTPoC drum circle that played under the 4th Ave bridge in Tucson and drummed as creatively as I could with one hand.

Embarrassing Moment

I do not recall any particularly embarrassing moments as I have expended mass amounts of energy trying to avoid such moments myself. As a band the lead singer failed to show up for a gig and that was a bit embarrassing but we went ahead and played the set as an instrumental one.

A funny story I have is that I bought my first electric guitar after I graduated high school with the sole intent to play it with distortion. I couldn't figure out for years how to get that effect out of the amp and so I didn't play it. One day a friend of mine simply pushed a small button and shazam! Distortion. This is perhaps my most ridiculous story and speaks to my propensity to overlook the painfully obvious!

My Instrument

My first instrument was a recorder lol! I hated that thing! It wasn't rock at all. My first guitar was an acoustic one from a neighborhood pawn shop. Eventually I sold it, I think because I was moving out of state for love and wanted to travel light. I sold all of my guitars actually. I had three at that point, a blue fender squier, a green 7 string electric and that old funny smelling acoustic guitar from the pawn shop. My favorite guitar is my black acoustic Martin. I just love that guitar and will NEVER get rid of that one.
