Texas Native, transplanted to Oklahoma at an early age, now living in Western Arkansas. My love of music is something I don't ever remember not having. I remember playing records on my little cheap turntable and wishing I could play like Glen Campbell, sing like Johnny Cash and have as many fans as The Beatles. Those were some of my earliest influences. At 8 years old I got my first guitar and I have had one ever since, 5 decades now. From the garage bands to duets, singles acts and many bands I have acquired many influences over the years. I have tried to incorporate what I liked about each artist's sound into my own style of playing, which I consider to be a very unique style. Not fancy, just a sound I like. I am still being influenced by artists I listen to. I never aspired to be any sort of star but rather a songwriter who doesn't have to tour. I have always been more happy playing a party or bonfire than a formal venue. Join me for oldies, originals and comic relief. Gary Bates
