I've never actually played on the Street but I'll use this space instead to say its rough out there performing on the streets! I was in D.C. about a week ago with a dinner reservation and while I was waiting a street musician set up and started playing in front of the restaurant. About 10 minutes later, another guitar player showed up and was just absolutely livid that this other guy had beaten him to "the prime moneymaking spot." And it must have been one of the areas where they make the most money because within 2 minutes a full on fist fight had broken out over who had the right to be working the area in front of this restaurant. Punches were thrown, colorful language was spoken, and the police were brought in to break it up. Just a normal night in Washington D.C. really.
Oh boy this one is an easy one. When I was still in High School (around 10th grade) I was in a band with 3 other friends. A Washington D.C. nightclub, the 9:30 Club, was having a yearly "battle of the bands" competition where a number of amateur bands would compete to sell tickets to the show and the 15 or so bands that sold the highest number of tickets would be invited to play live at the 9:30 club. We worked like crazy to sell tickets and after a week somehow managed to sell enough to secure a spot performing at the 9:30 Club. We invited all of our friends and family, anyone really who we could think of to fill the house. 2 songs into our set, our guitar player snapped a string and in his panic somehow managed to take the E-D string (I believe, i'm not a guitar player) completely out of tune. He hadn't brought a backup guitar and was too embarrassed to stop playing so he decided to just play the rest of the show horribly out of tune and missing a string... That wasn't our best night
I got my first instrument when I was 3 years old, it was one of those toy keyboards. I used it for years and learned a lot of songs on it but unfortunately I have no idea what ever happened to it. I have had a few instruments that I have owned just disappear and while I can get away with blaming the disappearance of my keyboard on my parents probably taking it to Goodwill or something, I have no idea and nobody to blame but myself for what happened to my Clarinet. It disappeared about 3 years ago and I haven't seen it since. I do have a Gibson Les Paul guitar that I have been trying to learn how to play but considering I can't even play a full song on it yet, I don't feel like I have earned the right to name it! haha
