I started playing on a borrowed violin around Mother's Day in 2013. A good friend discovered I was learning to play and she gave me a 1930-40's violin that was owned by her father-in-law.

I took a handful of Suzuki lessons and discovered that I really enjoy bluegrass, old time and folk music with celtic following closely behind. Maybe if I could fiddle faster I would like celtic!! Although bluegrass can be pretty fast!!

I attend a weekly jam where I am learning a ton of information from a great group of musicians.

My goals - to not offend too many ears. Early on I stated that I would like to be the next Grandma Moses of the fiddle!!

Concerning my screen name - Van Schaick. The original Dutch from the old country pronounced van skoik. My maiden name Van Schoyck pronounced ... van skoik.
