More About Sally_and_The_Hurts

My name is Sally Vee and I'm a singer-songwriter from Kansas. I grew up playing french horn in the school band and ended up majoring in horn performance while in college.

While I was in college, I learned to play guitar and took voice lessons. I performed in many different groups (orchestras, jazz bands, cover bands, etc.) for many years but did not start writing my own songs until about four year ago.

Writing my own songs has proven to be something I love to do. It's made me a better performer because when I sing my own songs, I can really relate to them and I put so much more of myself into the performance as a result.

I have several friends who are StreetJelly artists and I can't wait to join the roster of musicians here! I've been watching for a year or so now and I can honestly say that StreetJelly musicians/viewers are some of the kindest people you could hope to meet. I'm excited to have the opportunity to play original songs for y'all!

peace and love,
Sally
Fun Stuff about the Artist

Life on the Street

I haven't necessarily had a wild moment playing in the streets, but my band members and I did get stopped by the police in Canada for jaywalking. Does that count?

Embarrassing Moment

The most embarrassing moment I have had at a gig was during a sound check. I was singing into a microphone and getting frustrated because NOTHING was coming out of the speakers. I checked the volume/mix on the sound board, checked the volume of the mains- everything was good except...

... I hadn't plugged the cable into my microphone.

*forehead slap*

My Instrument

I've had a few guitars over the years. My favorite guitar is the one I currently play at every gig. It's a Collings SB-01.

The first time I ever played a Collings guitar was at SXSW in 2003. My friends and drove down to Texas to attend the festival and I visited a music store that had a few on the wall. I remember hearing the warmest sound I had ever heard coming from those guitars and I have wanted a Collings ever since.

Several years ago I was in Chicago for a music educators convention and walked downtown to Chicago Music Exchange just to waste some time and look at all the things I couldn't afford. They had an entire wall of Collings guitars and my jaw dropped to the floor. I ended up hanging around the store for more than several hours trying all the Collings I could. I found the Collings SB-01 and new it was what I needed in my life.
