1990: Hang guitar around neck
1993: Play loud rock in band with school friends. Develop headache and grow outrageous hairstyle. Spend lots of time in front of mirror.
1995: Accidentally discover guitar can be removed from neck. Had forgotten. Remove guitar.
1997: Learn bodhran and mandolin. Play in acoustic-roots duo. Gig a lot.
1856: Invent time travel
2010: Miss playing live. Dabble in some open mic gigs.
2013: Learn ukulele and drums
2014: Realise at 40 years old that - after playing live music for nearly a quarter of a century, have achieved remarkably little. Aside from the time travel thing... Scowl.
2015: Learn fiddle. Discover Street Jelly...
My first ever busking gig was to be at the Sidmouth Folk Festival. It was a 100 mile round trip. Got there, broke a string whilst tuning up, had no spares or money for spares, packed up and went home.
Yay us.
Wearing an enormous fake beard to perform as Tevye in Fiddler On The Roof. The beard was later named 'Rover'.
My most-loved guitar was the electric guitar my parents bought me for my 18th birthday. Named Louise after a girl I was trying to impress, I later stupidly loaned her to a girl I was trying to impress (not the same one). I never saw the guitar again, and, later still, I grew up.
Some instruments get named, some don't. It's hard to explain how it works. Some speak to you, some don't. My fiddle is called 'Rosie'. My ukulele is just a small stringed instrument. I can't explain...
