More About Mike_Mizal

Growing up post '60's was a great time to witness the older teens form bands and then take them into the garage and then henceforth into small gigs, that is if they ever got that far. But it made us younger kids want to pick up an instrument and get our own thing together. Later we discovered the musicians who influenced those who influenced the older kids and so on as to whom begat whom and so fourth. I really liked the music of the 1980's for the shear fun of the decade and those memories of the '80s those songs hold, not necessarilly for the keen musicianship. I dropped my interest in 'modern' music when grunge came about and haven't really had a reason to go forward...just isn't my taste. There are many like me who strive to be the musicians' musician, the players' choice. However, it is to you the music lovers, that really drive us to perform at our best levels. With that I'm really happy to be able to play my guitar and do a few numbers for you.

Fun Stuff about the Artist

Life on the Street

In the beginning of my Army enlistement I was going to Combat Medic school in San Antonio, TX and on one of the weekends we soldiers were given the chance to get out to the city for a little rest and relaxation. A few of my fellow soldiers and I walked by a little place called Jim McCallum's Landing where a piano player was riffing about. I love jazz piano and thus insisted that we make a stop. After a while I asked him in which key was he playing (just to break the ice). "E" he said. "You play? That's a pretty rare question that I get around here." I responded in the affirmitive and then he offerd the key board to me. "No thanks", I said but a small group of America's finest wouldn't have it any other way and they (the fellow soldiers from my platoon) shoved me up there. I went and played "Misty" and had a good response.

Embarrassing Moment

Too many embarrassing moments like forgetting whole passages or playing out of key or the in the wrong position on the fretboard. One rather awkward moment though was when I was in a group covering The Beatles' "In My Life". I had the honour of handling lead vocals. At the close of the song when I went to hit the falsetto a capella I completely butchered it......Can't hide that!

My Instrument

My first guitar was really my Mom's that she received from my Dad for her birthday present. Soon enough my brother and I commandeered it, 'Nuf said!
