More About MichaelJohnHall

Michael John Hall has the rare ability to take even rock "standards" and play them at their simple essence. Whether it his almost eerie cover of David Bowie's "Ground Control to major Tom" or his slow version of Maria Carey's "All I Want for Christmas" from his "Dashing Through the Snow" CD, or tracks from his "Soft and Sacred, Michael John Hall Plays the Beatles," every track is soft, simple and peaceful.

His newest CD - "Midnight Whispers: Songs in the Key of Sleep, features covers of GREAT rock classics like Freddie Mercury's "We are the Champions," but even these are played in the most tender way.

Hall comes from Long Island and studied Music Theory with Bill Westcott at Carle Place High School along with the great guitarist Joe Satriani, whose style is the polar opposite of Joe's, but whose love for music is the same. He grew up listening to Erroll Garner and Oscar Peterson with his mother. He has released 6 CDs since "Higher Places" came out in 2009.
Fun Stuff about the Artist

Life on the Street

Have never played on the street - I actually LOVE doing small venues and even home concerts, where there are no distractions and people can feel the emotion of each song.

My Instrument

I only play the piano, and have done so since I was about 5. I took lessons in 3rd and 4th grade then quite. At around 12 I started picking songs out of fake books. Nobody taught me, so whether the chord as "C7" or Cmaj7" or "Cm7," I play a C in the base and the songs by ear. Forty years later, those many chords are a joy to me and have morphed. But most importantly, I work to, try to, intend to bring my heart to each song. To touch the listener. My engineer and I often cry in the studio as I record a take - THAT is the benchmark for a keeper.
