Life on the Street
i was asked to sing at a festival and had little time to practice because of a conflicting work schedule. I was there to sing back-up, but when i arrived, my mic was placed right smack in the middle of the stage (among lots of diverse musicians). At one point, I looked out into the audience and could tell that it was dragging. I wasn't pleased with that, so I took a leap of faith. A friend (whom I still perform with to this day) did an intro and I jumped right in making up words and a melody right there on the spot!! Was I crazy?? Maybe!!, but they loved it anyway and that's what mattered!! We ended up knocking it out of the park. It was pretty awesome.
Embarrassing Moment
I was asked to sing improv with a band on the same ticket as Arrested Development. Sounds great, right? Well, it was except that a live drummer joined up with us at the very last minute (and I mean the very last min). Most songs were meant to slowly build, but this drummer came in full force before the other parts had a chance to come in. Wow!! Talk about chaos on a large stage!! But hey, the show must go on!! So, we muscled through it and ended up doing quite well (especially looking back retrospectively), but I can't tell you how embarrassing/stressful it was at the time!!
