More About Harmonybutterfly

Aloha! I'm Karen Mayfield, born and raised on the Oregon Coast. The third daughter of five girls in a row, I used to dream of being part of a famous group with my sisters when we'd sing along to the popular tunes in the 60s. ( I thought we weren't too bad!). Well, that never happened, but I really "dug" Chorus all thru my school years. I started writing my own original songs back in the mid. 80's while living on the "Big Island". I'd sing them Accapella 'cause I had no instrumental knowledge, what so ever... (see my "most embarrassing musical moment" below). After 30 years living on the Islands I decided I wanted to learn the Ukulele. Not able to afford one I prayed for one for a year, when unexpectedly I was gifted a wonderful 1950's "Universal Worldwide Trading Inc." on my Birthday, by a stranger on a nude beach on Maui, back in 2012. ( I still Thank that young man Every day for that Gift!) I'm on my 2nd Uke now and still Love playing and singing every chance I get.

Fun Stuff about the Artist

Life on the Street

I'm so new to all this music stuff I have no "wild" moments yet, but I got A LOT of nice feedback and made $30.00 in 2 hours my first time busking on Maui a month ago. I make my own Butterfly wings and costumes that I wear while I perform...

Embarrassing Moment

My "MOST" embarrassing moment happened in the 3rd grade, when we were given our one and only music test to see how "musically" inclined we were. I didn't know what the heck they were talking about... it was ALL Greek to me. Sadly, to this day it still is, pretty much. If someone starts talking "Music theory" my eyes glass over and I'm lost, lost, lost... Call me an idiot/savant... in fact, I'm not so sure about the Savant part! HA! But I LOVE the music and tunes God has blessed me with, it is really a lot of FUN playing and singing. I really look forward to sharing with every one!

My Instrument

I still have my first "GIFT" Ukulele, semi-retired now. But "Jam" everyday with my year old "Jin Yun". I Love this Ukulele!! The sound is really sweet, made of Philippine zebra wood. I tried at least 10 Ukes before I chose this one. She was priceyer than some of the others I tried, but she was the Best sounding of all the ones in my price range. I named her "JOY" (my Moms name), because she brings me SOOOO much JOY everyday!!
