Fun Stuff about the Artist

Life on the Street

I was chased out of a laundrymat by several local housewives.

Once I performed from inside a closed phone booth and phoned the performance to the phone next to it. A stranger answered it, looked at me horrified, then dropped the receiver and ran - best performance, ever. Have yet to replicate it.

I created a "Staring Contest" channel on Twitch, and stared at the screen for 45 minutes. I had a dozen viewers and they all blinked first.

I sampled some vocalists on their own stream, reversed it and chopped it up, then released a track based on it the next day. I got an email from Tokyo saying they were playing it in their cafe. From Texas to Tokyo by way of California, backwards, overnight. Beat that FedEx.

Embarrassing Moment

Probably being chased out of a laundrymat.

My Instrument

Actually I'm a saxophonist, but you lose your embouchure quickly so that's a long gone talent. Still, most of what I make is closer to harmony than melody and I credit the sax's traditional role (in larger bands) for that.

I use electronic devices for sound, but don't consider myself an electronic musician and certainly not a computer music maker. I am just as likely to use found objects, music boxes, chimes, teacups, just about anything to make unique and interesting sounds. I'll combine them by whatever means available.

I'm 100% improvisation because it is the improvisation that is the performance. I have less in common with a band than with a performance artist like Laurie Anderson or John Cage. Not that I am either of those.
