More About Debedee

I have been performing as a busker and have made my living that way for over 30 years. I played in many Austin, 'n Dallas clubs. I sang in clubs until I didn't want to any more and said to hell with that and hit the street where I achieved some success. Meaning that although people loved my music, and I loved performing, never asking for money but living off the good will donations of strangers, I was happy doing this for many years .I am the real deal, I like rock blues and country and have written and arranged over 400 songs, I lost count, and am a past first prize winner of the Austin Music Umbrellas prestigious songwriting award, but the people who kept me alive were the homeless, the indigent , the Indios, and the outcasts like me, who were always more generous with their tipping and it was my honor to,play for them. They would give me their last dollar to play their favorite song. Mostly my originals. LOVE!
Fun Stuff about the Artist

Life on the Street

The night I played on the corner of Brazos and Fourth in downtown Austin and got the cops and the very lovely transsexuals from Oil Can Harry's , the club across the street where I played , inspired enough to do a line dance to a song popularized by Queen, Dreamers Ball. It was the most fun I ever had! Love it when the street is rockin' and jivin' like that! Let the good times roll!

Embarrassing Moment

Probably my first paid stage gig at the age of fifteen. II was performing at the jazz club Popsicle Toes in Dallas. When I opened my mouth to sing, I was so paralyzed with stage fright that my vocal cords were also paralyzed. Nothing came out of my mouth. Not a sound. Some kind soul slipped me a stiff drink, a Singapore sling, and after downing it my vocal cords relaxed and the show went very well. I was playing rock covers with a band called I think, Time in a Bottle. Funny, I don't really remember the name of the band. Just guessing! I've had no need for booze since, really, but that time , it was good medicine!

My Instrument

My guitar does have a name, Eppie. She's been with me for over thirty three years. She has a nice additional sound hole where my thumb and fingers brushed agAinst my guitar, and wore through. She is painted in a way that continues to evolve, but the truth is, I first painted her not so much for the art, but so that she would be easier to identify if lost or stolen, but more importantly, the reason I painted her is so that I would not be tempted top hock her. I bought her about 1980 at McCords music on Deep Ellum in Dallas .She is a 1970 model Epiphone El Dorado, and though the headstock was tragically cracked in three places, She had a sound that is unforgettably beautiful. ome one loved to play her before me, and we just bolted the headstock together, and in spite of her beat up looks, She has been rebuilt twice, and still sounds incredibly beautiful. I have had other guitars but always come back to this one. This one is the best friend who kept me alive for the past thirty-three years
