More About DaveTaht

I was taught piano at the age of 5 and gave it up at 8 'cause my teacher only taught classical music. In my late teens discovered the blues, and played around in bands for a while... then gave it up again. At 30 I wrote my first song, which is still my best... worked on writing my own daw - played in a band called /dev/noise and another called "buzzwack!"... then at 40 I hung up my engineering career and went off to nicaragua to play with "Los Pobrecitos" for a couple years... then I came back to my day job career and stopped playing again until the last few months.

I miss playing with other people, and I also miss having an audience!

So... On piano I do a lot of neo-new-age stuff, some covers. On guitar originals, and covers. I have a couple funny filk songs in my bag and other songs about space. This summer I hope to master a couple jazz tunes. It is hard to get out to do a show, and I hope that by staying in and doing shows I'll feel more up to getting out!
Fun Stuff about the Artist

Life on the Street

I used to play the streets in Santa Cruz, Ca, a lot. It was a way of getting out, and away from my day job.

One Christmas week, I had been working 90 hour weeks and hadn't had any time to relax in months, so I packed up my guitar and found a corner where I could just sit and play for a while.

A lady came up to me and asked if I wanted food. I realize (now) that I wasn't looking so good, kind of scraggly, burnt out, not looking employed at all, but I DID NOT NEED FOOD. She kept interrupting me, asking about my home, and stuff like that and all I wanted to do was play. I was fine. I did not need food. I needed to play. I explained that really I was making good money elsewhere and was just trying to relax.... she didn't believe me.

I gave her my business card. She looked at it and said - "That's not you! don't you want some food?"

Nooo! said I. Eventually I gave her 20 bucks to go away.
