Fun Stuff about the Artist

Life on the Street

I was playing NZ reggae in the streets of Wellington (our capital city) late one Saturday night.
A group of 6 foot plus Māori and Islander boys surrounded me in a staunch rush.
They were all wearing matching uniforms but it was dark and hard to distinguish colours.
I played nervously for another verse and then mashed up my current song (Mr Reggae) with Rua Kenana, a local reggae song that sings about the empowerment of Tuhoe (a local Iwi/Tribe).
They all joined in with a chorus of “Chaaahoooohs!” and sung along with me.
Everyone is out here in the street and you never know what could happen to you!
Thankful to be safe at home broadcasting to you here.

Embarrassing Moment

There has been many moments in my musical career that could ALMOST be embarrassing but I seem to just roll with the punches and it always just works out!
I’ve had patrons come on stage, trip on cables and pull down entire PA systems during a headline drum solo. I’ve had guitars break strings mid song and almost derail entire performances but you got to improvise and adapt. I can’t remember the last time I was embarrassed on stage. It’s all a bit of a joke anyway, if you’re not laughing, you’re crying!

My Instrument

My first instrument was a 3/4 size violin and that’s hanging up on my mother’s living room wall. My current guitar is the one I’ve owned the longest. It’s a steel string, cutaway GA Martin acoustic. I named her “Martina”. No points for imagination there…
She’s in standard tuning but I drop her 2 half steps to bring it to D Standard. Usually use Elixir or D’Addario strings.
