The real purpose of music is to enjoy it, and to share it, and to entice others into joining up and joining in.
Don't ever sell yourself short, it doesn't take a bucketload of talent for listeners to catch onto you.It just takes a happy heart, a personal integrity, and a sincere display of your strengths and weaknesses. In other words, no-one is perfect, so get over yourself, just produce music and song, and enjoy the heck out of it.
I never was much of a lead singer and wasn't interested in singing lead, I was usually primary harmonie(s) backup vocalist, with the odd song to give the lead vocalist a break when needed. One night i was on keyboards, when the bassist who was lead singer, decided he was too drunk to continue, and somehow thought the night was over and decided to go home about halfway through an evening.Much to my dismay I was instantly elected to be lead singer for the rest of the night. I wasn't impressed with my performance for the next 30 or so songs, and most certainly wasn't going to receive any kind of award ,but fortunately the crowd was drunk enough to accept my most basic vocals. It was the next day i decided to give my vocal skills some future attention in the hopes of improving, and slowly increased my songlist over time. I often remember that evening, being scared of singing lead for the first time never realizing how it would shape my music career. That was 40 years ago.
The riser stage was a bit too small for the drummer, so i worked my magic utilizing and old wooden coke box for the drummers throne to set a couple feet on, it worked well enough giving the required extra foot of belly room for him, and all was well for the first set.
The second set however turned into a comedic nightmare as the box broke in the middle of a song and the drummer and sticks went flying in the air, and he came crashing down on my amp and speakers, and much of the remaining stage, knocking mic stands flying, and much of the drumset tumbled into the dance floor as he tried his best to save his butt in mid-air. The band and the crowd busted into hysterics, and it was a good twenty minutes before we realized he had a couple scrapes and some bruising but otherwise ok to continue..the funny part was he just so happened to be taking a sip of his beer (in a glass) at the time of the *accident,
amazingly...he never spilt a drop. i was embarrassed that my quick fix failed, lol.
I use to own a Rickenbacker Bass guitar at one point. It cost me some money in those days so i nicknamed her "Richie" (*sometimes spelt with B instead of an R* on occasion)
Lovely old guitar with a special character to it. I was constantly hounded by a fellow to sell it to him of which i refused a dozen times. Finally one day i gave in to him, and to this day, i'm royally kicking my butt . After 30 yrs or so, my butt is still sore. Don't let yours get sore as well, keep your "Richies" safe. Pro tip: If you're feeling down and out with music, don't ever sell off your gear, just put it in a closet and forget about it for a spell. You can thank me later.
