More About BellaBlackburn
I began singing to myself at a very young age. Every day, everywhere I could. My mother raised me on a diet of gospel and showtunes and I remember wanting to sound just like Judy Garland as a little girl. Later on I discovered rock and fell in love with the voices of Grace Slick, Janis Joplin, and Stevie Nicks. Somewhere in there, I began to find my own voice, but I was far to nervous to sing in front of people.
It wasn't until my late 20s that I discovered Ren Faires and Celtic music and found myself thinking, I can do that. I got together with some friends and formed a band called Fianna, and found that I could sing with a group. Together, we stumbled upon the Society for Creative Anachronism and with the careful application of liquid courage, I found myself in a bardic competition at my first event, singing alone for the first time. I took home an award for Best in Song and the confidence that I could truly sing. They haven't been able to shut me up since :)
