More About AmeliaBlake

There is a much longer bio on ameliablake.com, if you're interested. But, in the interest of brevity, I will say that I grew up in a very large family in Southern California, listening to old standards from my grandfather, big band from my parents, and folk from my older sisters. I love it all. I am as likely to sing a song from a movie musical as I am to sing my own songs. I believe I was influenced first by my own family, then the Beatles, John Denver, David Gates, Jim Croce and more in the singer/songwriter vein. I love corny pop songs, too. I just love to sing, and I hope it shows.
Fun Stuff about the Artist

Life on the Street

I have a tendency to tell stories when I sing. So tune in!

Embarrassing Moment

My most embarrassing moment scarred me for life: singing in my sister's folk group at church, and loudly singing out "sing it over!" just as the song ended. Mortified!

I also made a similar mistake by returning to the refrain, while the rest of the band continued to the last verse of a song - in a live performance, during a fundraiser on public radio. There was no saving face.

My Instrument

I play acoustic guitar. I have many other instruments, but I don't play them in public because I truly "play" with them, rather than having actually learned how to use them properly. I am not a big believer in brand names on instruments. I play what sounds good. I often play the old Yamaha my parents bought for me in 1980, because it sounds as good as any guitar I've played before or since.
