Supported from a young age to pursue music and arts, Alissa is a first generation Canadian, who is the first in her family to pursue music as a career. Drawing on natural musical abilities Alissa first discovered her love of music during her middelschool years. Falling in love with First Nations music Alissa purchased her first Spirit Flute at age 12 from Toys R Us. This was her most prized possession and she played it daily for three years. Alissa reaserched and found various musical inspirations the major one of which was the music of David R Maracle.


Three years after first picking up the Spirit Flute Alissa stumbled across one of Toronto's hidden gems known as Musideum, That is where Alissa Ponds career was Launched. Alissa secured a job at musideum with its owner Donald Quan, becoming Donald Quan's apprentice. A few months into her apprenticeship Alissa was introduced to David R Maracle by Donald Quan, She then began to study with David on occasion.
