After children I got back to music and started in BUMS (Brisbane Ukulele Musicians Society) - True story - after getting my confidence up, I started at open mics and then 2 yrs ago began to BUSK which I really love.
I love to sing Beatles, Kinks and 60's pop as well as bush songs and some comedy numbers which go really well with Aussies ( not sure about overseas people!)
Actually from Manchester originally, I do a mean George Formby set on the Uke too.
Play regularly at the Indooroopilly Community Activity Centre in Brisbane, well used to before Covid-19...also love to busk in the city square. Usually take my karaoke mic and backing tracks on a tablet, as its a hassle lugging amp on the bus...did I mention the buses are free in Brisbane? well they are for folk my age!
A Strength is comedy and iconic Aussie Bush songs -these are always popular at the care home where I sing for my mum (94yrs) and her friends.
Often forget words or chords, but I follow the mantra "don't stop"
An old colleague saw me busking once and announced I was a fugative from the real world and I should be ashamed of singing dirty ditties on the street in front of children...I now ensure I have my security escort before playing :-}
I busked for the Aussie bushfire victims around New Year, and found the tips were either zero, or BIG...only some folk believed they weren't for myself perhaps!
I play Uke, Guitar, Autoharp...none are named.
I have a very old 4th-hand Takamine with a split top which is just dandy for busks and outdoor shows.
