More About PatrickBurke

I've been a musician all my life, breathing in every influence from John Lennon to Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, Tim and Neil Finn, Vivian Stanshall, Joni Mitchell, Neu, King Crimson, etc.

As a solo singer-songwriter I employ an eclectic style, from vocal rock to solo piano & acoustic guitar to heavy electronic progressive. I will be featuring all of these styles in my shows at various times on a regular basis and you will find all that and more on my Bandcamp page.
Most of the music there is available FREE. Check it out.

My first album was self-produced in 1978, The Parasites of the Western World which featured underground electronic music. A two-man group, we were the first independent artists in Portland Oregon to self-publish an LP. It's commonplace now but at the time, not so much. Most of our sales were overseas thanks to Archie Patterson of Eurock Magazine.

All I've ever tried to do is write quality music regardless of whatever music is trending at the time.
Fun Stuff about the Artist

Life on the Street

At a top 40 club in Coos Bay, just as we were getting ready to start our first set the owner walked up to the stage and told me someone had phoned in a bomb threat and that I was to announce it and vacate the club.

I walked up to the mic and said "I'm sorry to tell you this but the club has received a bomb threat and everyone has to leave." There was a moment of silence and then everyone started laughing. I didn't expect that, lol. I said "No, there REALLY IS a bomb threat." After clarifying my announcement the nonbelievers filed out.

Our bass player realized in the parking lot he'd forgotten his jacket and against our protests said he was going back in to get it. As he walked closer to the door he slowed down and finally stopped. The reality of what he was doing had finally set in. Lol.

Embarrassing Moment

I accidentally stopped a David Bowie concert. Standing close to the stage (festival seating) I held up a package with his name on it.

He motioned for me to toss it to him. He couldn't see it with the bright stage lights in his one good eye and fumbled it, stumbling a little, down on one knee and dropping his Beyer mic in the process. The windscreen popped off. He then tossed the mic into the audience! My friends and I got it but the cord was still attached.

By then Bowie had gone to the other side of the stage continuing the song (Changes.) Meanwhile a crew member was tugging on the mic cable to retrieve the mic. This was ALL VERY SURREAL when it was happening.

My friend (the bass player from the story above) took out a pocket knife, cutting the cable. The roadie fell backwards with the loose cable and we ended up with the mic.

By the way, the package I threw to him was a demo tape with three of my originals. I doubt if DB listened to it after that. My sincere apologies

My Instrument

My first instrument is a black Wurlitzer spinet piano which I still have. My parents bought it the year I was born. It has a sound which to my ears is unlike any other piano I've ever played.

My first guitar was a Sears Silvertone acoustic which was given to me in eight grade for Christmas. I took lessons for two months and lost interest. A year later my sister picked it up and started teaching herself to play. THEN I was suddenly interested again. I learned chords out of Beatle song books and joined my first band a year later.

I still have that guitar but it's pretty beat up.
