When I lived in Orange County I used to go out to the beach at night and sit on the lifeguard station and play guitar. It was late one night and these guys came by and requested the Gambler by Kenny Rogers. We had a great time singing the tune and my friends soon departed on down the beach. The next day I went to Venice Beach up in Los Angeles and there was a street performer that was wearing gloves and playing the guitar. He looked over at me and out of the blue launched into the Gambler by Kenny Rogers. After the song he looked right at me and said "and you know I'm a country boy". Mind blown!!!
I was in line at the NAMM show in Anaheim waiting to get in and in line behind me was Carlos Santana. I was a bit dumbfounded and starstruck so I asked him if he was actually Carlos Santana. He said yes he was and I said under my breath "one of these days I'll be there" referring to being a good player. He looked right up at me and said "you already are there" ... I was amazed that he even heard what I said and my response to him was "you are above the rest" ... He looked directly into my eyes and smiled and said "thank you" and he meant it. What an incredible moment that I will never forget for the rest my life!
My Taylor 314 CE has a very unique name and an equally interesting story of how it came to be named what it is. I always take my wife with me when looking at new guitars or music equipment because I totally trust her ears when it comes to music and quality music. At a music store we sifted through many models of acoustic guitar to finally come up with the one I have today. On the drive home we were trying to come up with a name for this new guitar and I told her let's name it after your middle name Elizabeth and she looked at me and smiled and said "Elizabeth Taylor" ... Slamdunk!!! Homerun!!! Game over!!! Welcome to the family Elizabeth Taylor!
“You made my heart sing.”
“I bow to your Godliness.”
